restaurants, local shops, very close as well, from where you can buy all the
necessary and you can use their toilets and internet.

According to the Law (one point of view)
The tent (Caravan) is considered to
be a “home”, covered by asylum (article 9 παρ. 1 εδ. α του Συντάγματος) and the
entry of a police officer is permitted only by a warrant. So you can legally
not go out from your tent and not let them get in.
The ban on camping is exclusively
from sunrise to sunset (summer time zone).*
*This is
very important part, because in a way the law allows camping during the night,
but not during the day. So yes you can install
your tent to a beach during the night, but you have to uninstall the tent
during the day. Ιn this
way you do not occupy a public space, which is illegal.

The Truth about wild free Camping Greece
The Truth
is that thousands of people every summer, choose to experience wild (free)
camping not because its free, but because it is a great experience.
Also truth is
that plenty of people who experience wild camping during the summer period they
do it for more than a week. A week or more it’s a big period for free camping
and you need to be prepared. So it’s more common to use heavy camping gear and
equipment, not just a tent but extra camping gear for this period. (Tents,
Sleeping bags, mats, pillows, portable chairs and tables, sun umbrellas, camp
fires, cooking equipment, big water bladders ,even sometimes electrical generators
etc. (Not exactly what we mean wild
camping). So you can see a wild camping
spot with full of comfort, which is ok, but this is the type of free camping
which is let’s say “against the law”, or it’s a tangible proof be accused of illegal
wild free camping.
Using a
hammock is not the same as using a tent or a caravan. Hammock is not considered
to be a “home”, is not consider to be a shelter, it’s a very basic camping gear
so it’s very difficult almost unfair to be accused for wild camping. However it’s
true that the Greek law for the free camping is not clear, and therefore there
is always a risk. The fine for free camping is 150 euros but it is rather
unlikely to get any fine, in particular in these areas where traditional are destinations
for free camping.
